PrePA Student Burnout

Girl! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

PrePA student burnout, lets talk about it! Life as a prepa student was chaotic! 18+ credit hour semesters, Working to save money, side hustling to pay down debt, raising my daughter, navigating divorce while working on CASPA prerequisites & 2nd guessing the decision every step of the way 😩⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Talk about puttin’ in WERK! ….But 2yrs of that is exhausting AF 😕⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

I started pa school burned out. And, life kept handing me lemons throughout the program😖⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

PrePA Student Burnout

So why did I enroll? 🤔⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Simple! I wanted to stick to my timeline 🙄🤦🏾‍♀️⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

I tried to find balance in undergrad by slowing down the side hustling, reducing my work hours, taking fewer courses & in some cases, no classes at all.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

But, in hindsight, I would’ve pushed the application cycle back another year or two…Maybe longer 🤷🏾‍♀️⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

By the time graduation came around, my brain was so FRIED so I took a gap year to salvage what was left of my sanity 🤯. And even then, I decided to ease into work with a residency. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Sure I survived pa school (won’t He do it 🙌🏾)

but I know I could’ve done so much better had I been in the right mental space. Instead, I showed up without my A-game & a less than enthusiastic attitude 🥴⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Student Burnout is real!

Listen to your body. Please pay attention to what it’s telling you. If you have everything in order & ready to apply, but you’re feeling burned out & not in the right mental space to take on such an academically rigorous & demanding medical program; Consider pushing back the application cycle. Not out of fear or self-doubt, but for sanity protection.⠀⠀
