A few things to do once accepted into pa school
Congratulations mama! You did it. Below are a few steps to take before matriculating.
Celebrate
Take a moment to acknowledge all of your hard work. GIRL, YOU DID IT!!! This was no small feat 👏🏾 ⠀
Finalize Arrangements
If applicable; secure an apartment and prepare for relocation. Moving sucks, so you want to give yourself enough time to find a new pediatrician, dentist, school route, etc.
Give your current employer notice. Your welcome letter will contain the matriculation date, use this a guide to determine when your last day of work will be.
Begin the childcare interviews/hiring/training process, to include school tours and meet the teachers. Be sure to share the news with your support system. Not only to celebrate with you but to finalize any arrangements/move things around on their end.
Finances
Read about financial prep for pa school here. Most programs will require a $1000 fee to hold your spot within one week of acceptance, so have those funds ready to go. Medical equipment/supplies sales will likely occur the first week of class, so have these funds readily available as well. Upperclassmen may be selling gently used equipment for the low, which could save a few dollars 🤑⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Side Note: This rule of thumb hasn’t changed from undergrad- Unless otherwise instructed by your program, DO NOT PURCHASE ANY TEXTBOOKS until school starts. 9/10, you won't need or use ‘em. And if you do need ‘em, they will most likely be available in a digital format.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Double Side Note: Consider matriculating with about $500 of cash on hand for miscellaneous things that may come up - Additional study tools and resources, parking fees, student dues, kids extracurriculars, tech upgrades or repairs, and any other incidentals that may occur.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Gather Info
Read professor bios, all about the resources available to Grad Students, plus any general student body information. Be sure to take notes & write down any questions you may have for orientation day⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Connect
Your program may put together a FB group or meet up for the incoming class 🙂 Take a moment to get to know your cohort⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Refresh
I wrote a quick post about a few things to review before matriculation 😉 Totally OPTIONAL, but I think it will benefit you in the long run, especially if you’ve been out of school for a minute⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Vacation
PA School is about to rock your world, so enjoy a nice vacation 😎 That way, you’ll show up refreshed & ready to learn⠀⠀⠀
